The Ford Fiesta ECOnetic doesn't run on battery power, but instead relies on a super-efficient diesel engine, a unique transmission, low rolling-resistance tyres and ride height and aerodynamics adjustments, to result in a more economical vehicle. With an official fuel economy rating of 3.7 l/100km, the Fiesta diesel is more economical than the Toyota Camry Hybrid and the Prius.

Externally, the ECOnetic shares its styling with the rest of the Fiesta range, in five-door hatch form only, the ECOnetic is not that different in looks to a Fiesta CL, however the specifications match that of a Fiesta Zetec. The Fiesta ECOnetic sports 14-inch steel wheels and aero-optimised hubcaps. It also rides lower than the standard Fiesta to cut aerodynamic drag.

The Ford Fiesta ECOnetic offers air-conditioning as standard, alongside a trip computer, cruise control and electric front windows and the same six-speaker premium sound system (which can read MP3 file formats) as the Fiesta LX and Zetec models. A USB input for external music players (iPods, MP3 players) is provided and steering wheel-mounted audio controls come as standard.
